I have been using Duane’s Snowtrekker® Tents for years, and I am always amazed by the thoughtful improvements that he continues to make to the most functional, rugged, lightweight canvas tents available.
Snowtrekker Tents are changing the way people think about cold weather camping by providing campers with a lightweight, easy to set up tent that allows you to lounge around in your long underwear, soaking in the heat of the wood stove, an hour after selecting a campsite.
I lived in a Snowtrekker during dozens of outings, from two-month dog sled expeditions to weekend shoulder season canoe trips close to home, and I would recommend them to anyone interested in cold weather camping.
I have used quite a few different models of hot tents, ones that you build a frame with poles you cut from the woods, ones that have center poles and stoves, ones that resemble a teepee, and also, very lightweight, nylon hot tents.
For the type of winter camping I enjoy, nothing beats my Snowtrekker 8x10 Crew
The poles are easy to assemble into the A frame, and draping the tent over is easily a one person job.
The size is perfect for 2 people, or 1 and a dog.
The placement of the stove is perfect, out of the way, and still close enough to each person to be more than efficient.
The lightweight, easy to pack tent and stove is a source of warmth and security in the cold winter months.
I've used Snowtrekker tents for a number of years and absolutely love the design, ease of set up, durability and craftsmanship. It's definitely a brand you can trust If you're looking for a lightweight, cozy hot tent to haul into the frozen wilderness.
I purchased my snowtrekker tent two years ago from Duane and Margot. I needed a tent that could handle the Canadian fall, winter and spring seasons with ease. I spent a lot of time reading many reviews of other tents, and what type of tent would suit my needs. Snowtrekker stood out to me as one of the best tents for the harsh Northern Environments that I tend to travel in.
I spend a considerable amount of time outdoors in less than ideal camping weather, so not only am I relying on this tent for comfort, I'm also relying on it for downright survival in some instances. This tent has proven itself to feel as comfortable as my own home in -40 degree weather, and has also proven to be an extremely comfortable base camp on remote big game float hunts in the often cold/wet fall hunting seasons.
I consider myself to be a fairly hardcore outdoorsman/hunter. I demand a lot from my gear, and Snowtrekker has surpassed my expectations! I'd recommend their tents to any serious outdoors person who is looking for some quality gear! Snowtrekkers lightweight canvas tents cannot be matched for breathability or comfort by any high tech material, regardless of what other manufacturers claim!
Thanks again Duane and Margot for your hard work in creating such great pieces of gear!
We cannot say enough great things about these tents! Snowtrekker’s 8' x 9' Expedition tent changed our entire career path. Dave and I took this tent, one Black River Sled, a borrowed sled and snowshoes and ventured into the northern Ontario wilderness for 40 days back in 2010. Self-supported, we felt we had everything we needed to stay out all winter.
With the simple design and internal frame, one person could easily set it up while the other was collecting firewood, boughs and water. Even on the coldest, most difficult days, we felt we could push ourselves that extra bit, knowing that at the end of the day we could hang our gear up at the peak of the tent, have a hot meal and be able to start fresh the next morning. When we returned from our 40-day expedition, we knew we had to share this experience with others. We now lead expeditions that range from 3 days all the way up to 3-weeks in the north woods.
We had no question that we would be using Snowtrekker Tents for our outfit. Though there are other companies making hot tents- Snowtrekker has forged the way for the snow walking community and continues to be at the top of the pack. Every year they are making improvements on what is already, what we consider to be the best hot tent on the market. We have experience with almost every tent that they offer and without any sponsorship from them, are happy to speak to you directly about these incredible tents. They literally are a home away from home and you would really have to twist our arms or call it a “survival training exercise” to camp in the winter without one. Gratitude for your service to the winter camping community Duane and Margot!!! With love from Canada.
Duane and Margot- I wanted to say thanks for your advice and input on sizing and stove placement. For my needs, this is really, uncompromisingly exactly what I wanted. It was so easy to work and talk with you both. As you can see, delivery was fast! Great design, quality and customer service of this level is rare. This is Snowtrekker tent #2, you really delivered again!
I have been very pleased with the tent. The light weight and breathability as well as the fact that it has a wood stove, makes it a perfect tent for the Arctic. I've used the tent many times this winter, in temperatures ranging from -58° F to 20°. I once camped in winds reaching 40 knots. The tent has never let me down and did surprisingly well in the strong winds. Other troopers who have stayed in it with me, wondered about the lack of a floor until they spilt their coffee in my special tent! They are now believers also!
